Off to see HP

January 24th, 2012 Comments off

So this week is storming right by and is capped off with a trip to Fort Collins CO to learn about 3Par and Lefthand and how HP does storage.  I am interested to learn more about both of these products, and even storage in general. There will be lots of useful discussion for sure which is the best part.

Bringing bloggers together to discuss and learn about HP products and the tech that makes them work is great and I’m glad to participate.  Like others attending I have read some of the white papers covering both 3par and Lefthand but have no experience with them. No worries, I’m sure it is coming soon. After going to CO, next up is Tech on Tap I am very much looking forward to the first event and hope it is the first of many.

Time to pack and charge my iDevices.

Welcome to Texas – for HP Tech Days

I am attending HP’s Tech Days event in Dallas and Houston from 1-10 through 1-12 and am interested to learn about some of the new technology HP is working on as well as get a peek at a new data center
using HP technology.  THe organization is a small outfit that you might have heard of… here is a hint, they have a 40 yard jumbotron.

Give up?  Yep.. its the Dallas Cowboys, who will not be getting home field advantage in the Super Bowl… but I digress (Go Pack).

The event kicks off with a tour of the stadium and its Data Center onMonday then we bus it down to Houston and get dinner.  On Tuesday, we are off to HP for a full day of discussions and tours around their campus.  Should be an interesting event for many reasons… My organization is beginning to lean toward HP as some of the pricing and capabilities are very good.  I like the capabilities and the pricing, the business folk like the pricing.  Its good that we can all agree.

I have had great luck with Dell and HP in recent years and am happy to see what HP is coming out with and just what they are working on because I do feel a bit more compelled with what I have been getting from their product line as of late.  Because of the fact that I am currently a single man shop, I am not usually worried about who provides the hardware as long as it gets done what I need it to.. this will likely still be the case, but the machines I have been using
lately are HP (and of course the iPad).

I am curious about the discussion coming at the event and look forward to participating. Getting the opportunity to interact with so many other people who blog about and work with this technology is a great experience and should be considered by all those who have the chance to do it.

Am I looking forward to some of the football stuff and the tour of Cowboys Stadium… Hell Yes.  I may not get the opportunity to visit it again for a long time, if ever, so the football fan in me is jazzed to get that chance.

I am curious to discover more about the HP technology called OCS. Being a geek in a very Microsoft-centric area I had to stop myself from mentioning Office Communications Server (which I know is now Lync), but I am curious to see what HPs OCS technology is all about.  I will be taking tons of notes throughout the event (when I am not
taking photos of the football stuff) and do my best to translate those notes into a decent set of blog posts when I get back from Texas.

Oh and because we are still alive in the NFL Playoffs… Go Pack Go!!!
